Big Mule Deer - Where, Why, When? And How do I find them?

First let me give you a little background on myself as this is the first article I have written on one of my favorite subjects - Finding big Mule Deer. I was born and raised in a little farming community in Saskatchewan. We had lots of whitetails around especially on my Grandpa's farm.

Antelope - An Alberta Treasure

You can't help but sing in antelope country. The temptation to fill your lungs and yodel can be overwhelming for a city slicker headed out on the hunt for the elusive prairie goat. "You can't be serious. You think we will see a hundred antelope?" My son was full of questions. "Maybe a thousand." I grinned, "Every time I drive the Trans-Canada highway I see antelope."

Misty River Black Bears

Mike Pierson and I were in the heart of big bruin country, camped along the Athabasca River hunting black bears with Nick Kuelken and his crew. The early scouting reports were promising and we were excited to be back in the bear woods.

Alberta Point Blank: ARCHERY ELK RUT

The first arrow struck the Elk broadside. The Bull jumped forward in surprise as though suddenly stung by a large insect. Yet for some reason, as if struck by Cupid, the Elk remained curiously intrigued despite the sizeable bolt projecting from its right side.

Close Quarters! Mule Deer Meets Arrow

The goal for many hunters who come to Alberta is not just finding Mule Deer to harvest, but finding BIG Mule Deer to harvest. Buck Fever

As this big buck disappeared over the hill, my guide, Brett commented "That's one of the biggest mule deer bucks I have ever seen!" On the other, just as Peterson was lining out a stalk, he saw on odd looking shape in the pine trees ahead. "It took a minute for it to register, but finally realized that the shape was another bowhunter," he recalls.

Wolf Dreams

Everyday of our lives we make plans. We plan our day; plan for the future plan and for our next hunt. All plans have goals and our personal goals are often based on our dreams. Sometimes dreams are wishes with really little chance of success. They are still our dreams, so we plan and we try and we work toward fulfilling them.

Military Rations - A FATHER AND SON MOOSE HUNT

way, to himself. It would be a rare chance to bond together in the North, on a father and son Moose hunt before Craig joined the US Marine Corps the following February.

Brock Lesnar - TAPS OUT WHITETAIL

Brock Lesnar, the "baddest man on the planet," took southern Alberta by storm at the tail end of 2010. He bagged two trophy deer in less than four days - a Muley and a Whitetail. The first was, in Brock's words, "...a respectable, male deer buck". The latter won Largest Whitetail in the provincenearly taking Brock's arm off in the process.
